The Women 1st campaign

Over the past eight years, through our Women 1st campaign we have run three conferences, a book launch, over 20 networking events and supported over 1,200 women through subsidised training and mentoring programmes.

We’re very proud of the campaign’s achievements over the years, and the awareness it raised for the business benefits of having stronger female representation on senior teams.

We strongly support the need for gender-balanced leadership across the visitor economy, and under the People 1st brand we continue to support the development of female talent:

Research

Today there are circa 24,000 fewer women in management positions in the hospitality sector than there were in 2010.

When looking at the wider people related challenges now facing the sector, we’ve identified three key drivers disrupting the way businesses are recruiting, training and retaining their staff:

  • Increased costs
  • Difficulty in recruitment
  • Changing employee attitudes

Hospitality businesses are having to rethink their people strategies and the argument to attract, retain and progress more women into hospitality and tourism has become more compelling in light of these three drivers.

Training

To help female managers transform their leadership abilities, giving them the skills and confidence to move up to the next level, we offer ‘Step Up’ - a training programme for female managers, which consistently delivers impressive results for our clients.
